Rootless after finding his wife married to someone else when he returned following three years of bounty hunting in the Indian Nations, Travis VanHorn finds himself in Wichita, Kansas. Settling in for a beer, a bunch of Texas cowboys jumps VanHorn. Coming out ahead in this deadly fracas, VanHorn is hired as a deputy by Marshal Thom Hollenbeck. Soon VanHorn becomes embroiled in a feud between a group of German farmers and a group of would-be ranchers over a patch of land.
