Bobby Fischer: The Early Years (1943 – 1962) covers the formative years of one of the greatest players ever. Particular attention is focused on years from 1956 to 1958 when Fischer went from an 1800 rated player to one of the best in the world. The reasons for this dramatic jump in strength are analyzed and unpublished training games from this period appear for the first time.
The unfinished match with Sammy Reshevsky is also covered in depth. Not only are several of the games heavily annotated, but many original documents and photos are given for what is arguably the most famous match ever played between two Americans players.
