Ava, the stunningly beautiful companion of Andrew's father, enjoys a memorable visit to Hesperides Island. She shamelessly flirts with Captain Lamas during the voyage to the island in his antique Chris Craft runabout. After meeting Eleanor Coxworth on the shore, she enjoys a personal tour of Coxworth Academy in the founder's bright red, classic 1931 Duisenberg Torpedo Phaeton. The two women travel to all of the ancient Greek and Roman replica buildings and see some amazing sights: a surprised college student at Insula Alpha, the men's dormitory; bodybuilders exercising at the Colosseum; the heroic statue of Coxworth, the academy's unicorn mascot, at Circus Maximus; and the temporary Office Boy at the Palazzo Poli, the Admissions and Administration Building. Ava finally catches up with Andrew at the Valetudinarium, the Academy's hospital. Their meeting delights Ava but mortifies Andrew, for the college student is in the middle of a medical examination!

Ava's extraordinary day on Hesperides Island comes to a climactic conclusion when Sextus, Mrs. Coxworth's muscular personal manservant, visits her bedroom and offers his services for the night.
