When an unscrupulous commercial fisherman is murdered in a tiny Alaskan town, local police investigator, Dan Fields, has plenty of suspects, including his own high school sweetheart.

The investigation is complicated: the victim is clutching a 2,000-year-old Tlingit halibut hook, the quirky locals are perfectly willing to lie for their own personal gains, and the twenty-foot tides are washing away every bit of evidence.
