ABOUT THIS BOOK -- There are a lot of tales thrown about isolated settlements "unknown to the civilized world," but the Himilayan region of Dolpo actually fits this description. Largely unknown to the Western until the 1950's, even today one has to journey three days on horse to get from Dolpo to the nearest airport. This book by photographer Eric Valli and journalist Dianne Summers is one of the first on Dolpo. Valli is a long-time National Geographic photographer is perhaps best known for his film Himilaya and for his book The Honey Hunters of Nepal. For years now, Valli has provided images and insight to this remote, thriving, agrarian outpost of traditional Tibetan culture. BOOK DETAILS -- Oblong hardback: grey cloth over boards; 103 pp. With dustjacket. Color, full-page photographic illustrations throughout. 7 pages of text. 1 map.
