In the first part of the book the authors introduce the reader to the general conditions relating to the cultivation of edible plants, such as the nature of the soil, irrigation, and the struggle against pests and diseases. The second part, which forms the bulk of the book, consists of an exhaustive alphabetical descriptive catalog of more than 9,000 genera and species, based on first-hand experimental data and illustrated with line drawings. The final part of the book contains an analytical index of genera (by type and use) and a comprehensive key of over 6,000 common plant names.
