Norman Douglas is best known for his travel books. After being jailed in England for inappropriate behavior with young boys, Douglas decided an extended trip to the Mediterranean would be in order. Fountains in the Sand tells the story of the oasitic people of Tuinsia and their way of life. Douglas had an eye for finding the unusual about the people he met. His not so flattering opinion of them was of a shiftless people who had little of offer.
