The first part traces the history of Roman glassmaking between about 100 B.C. and about A.D. 500 - from before the Romans completed their conquest of the Mediterranean until after their empire began to collapse. The second part illustrates 24 outstanding examples of Roman glass in The corning Museum of Glass and describes the methods that were used to make them. The glossary on pages 58-59 explains the names of glassmakers' tools and techniques. At the end of the volume, there is a list of books and articles that discuss the Roman Empire and the achievements of its glassmakers...."
