BY the time the car pulled up outside her grandfather’s house, Sammie-Jo was fizzing with excitement and anticipation – and she just didn’t know the reason. She was really flustered. She was trying to ask herself why. But in the back of her mind she knew. She just didn’t want to accept it as an explanation for her anxiety. It was Reg Crabtree.
The taxi drove away and left her gazing at the house. It was dark inside. Her grandfather and his filthy old mate were obviously asleep. Sammie-Joe blew air out of her cheeks. She felt light-headed.
