The gist of this book can be summed up in the words of Chinese hermit Shan-chuan: "I have my place in the world. In winter I wear skins. In summer I wear hemp. In spring I plow and plant and have enough to do. In fall I harvest and gather and have enough to eat. When the sun rises I get up. When it sets, I rest.
