§ Hine studied sociology at New York University, Columbia University and University of Chicago.
§ He became a teacher at Ethical Culture School in New York City. There, he encouraged his students to use photography as a social medium.
§ In 1908, he left his teaching position and became a photographer for the National Child Labor Committee.
§ Hines photographs showed the harsh conditions of child labor, which led to new child labor laws in the United States.
§ In 1930, Hine was commissioned to photograph the construction of The Empire State Building.
