Political Speech: Historic US Supreme Court Rulings (LandMark Case Law)

A 1919 California statute banning red flags was found to be unconstitutional. Stromberg is one of the first cases to protect symbolic speech from infringement by a state.



The Broadrick case upholds an Oklahoma statute which prohibits state employees from engaging in partisan political activities.



Citizens United was decided in 2010 and holds that corporate funding of independent political broadcasts for candidates in an election cannot be limited because of the First Amendment.
