Softgoods (a novella of high fashion and low murder)

Just a moment ago, Carol Lasting’s life was safe and sunny, great husband, great kid and a charming starter home. In a blink, the package unravels: Carol is suddenly a single mom with a boatload of debt in the worst economy since the great depression. Flashy, wisecracking Sheila’s job offer to sell designer fashions out of a station wagon is way out of her comfort zone but Carol has no other prospects. The traveling fashion show becomes a high wire act with lots of adrenalin and easy cash until a preppy cop comes around with warnings of a crime spree and stirs up Carol’s wounded heart. All the pretty things women are dying to wear lose their appeal when murder is the price.
