Charles hires a construction crew to begin building a home, office, and barn for Dr. Samuelson.
Charles and Dr. Jim Samuelson return to Vallejo, and Charles is pleased with the way Kuo Chang has assumed his duty as Head Gardner.
Charles receives a telegram relating to the construction office in Philadelphia. His accountant, Caleb Coffee, was beaten and robbed. Charles and the family return to Philadelphia and Charles and Blank take matters into their own hands when a local sheriff in New Hampshire doesnâ€™t want to do anything about the beating and robbery.
