As the miles go by and they get closer to Sarasota, she comes to suspect that this crazy widower may in fact be a murderer and they're transporting a body in the trunk of his car. With the police hot on their trail, Tess isn't about to let a little murder stand between her and her daughter -- no matter how many bodies start piling up.

Q - So, what makes The Designated Survivor special?
A â€“ The Designated Survivor is what I like to call a â€œRoad Trip Mystery.â€ Itâ€™s a fun read that is scary in some parts, nail-biting in others, and surprisingly funny when you least expect it. Itâ€™s a murder mystery with a female protagonist that takes its heroine, single mother Tess, on an emotional roller coaster ride. Sheâ€™s desperately trying to get from Atlanta, Georgia to Sarasota, Florida to reunite with her daughter. With few options available to her, she hitches a ride on I-75 with a grieving widower. Somewhere down the road, Tess starts to suspect this widower has murdered his wife, and the dead womanâ€™s body is in the trunk. This Florida Mystery touches on all the senses and offers some humor in the mix too.

Q â€“ What type of mystery is The Designated Survivor?
A - First off, be under no illusions: this is an edge-of-your-seat suspense novella, not a cozy mystery or detective story. Itâ€™s about a motherâ€™s desperate attempt to reunite with her daughter. There is peril, violence, an unstable driver and a 1965 Impala convertible with a body in the trunk. However, itâ€™s never so over the top that readers with a squeamish stomach should be turned away, but it doesn't let you forget the fact that this is a thriller for a single minute

A â€“ Not at all. The Designated Survivor is a unique mystery with a plot and characters that have no connection to my previous books.

However, all my books are set in Florida and Georgia. I like to call The Designated Survivor a Road Trip Mystery.

Q - So, why should readers give these books a try?
A â€“ The main character Tess comes to life on the page in a way that, hopefully, sucks the reader into the story as if he or she is right there with the protagonist, experiencing everything sheâ€™s going through to get her daughter back. Thereâ€™s a mystery that unfolds, as the reader tries to figure out exactly what her Good Samaritanâ€™s true motives are and he really did murder his wife... or is that even his wifeâ€™s body in the trunk of someone else entirely.

I love it when readers tell me, â€œI didnâ€™t really take the book seriously at first, but I couldnâ€™t put it down.â€ If youâ€™re like me, you enjoy reading a few pages before bed. Now my goal is to keep you up all night reading because you just have to know what happens next.
