Understanding Geography is a grade-specific map, graph and geography skills program that helps students learn about and better understand the world they live in. Understanding Geography is designed to be used as a stand-alone curriculum or to support existing social studies curricula.

In grade 5, children use their map and geographic skills in activities focused on the United States. Key areas are population and immigration, transportation and resources and trade over time. Two other books are in the series: Grade Level 3 and 4.
