When British Honduras Became Belize: A Peace Corps Memoir 1971 - 1973

This book, by Ted W. Cox, describes a Belize of forty years ago when it was the colony British Honduras. Written in thoughtful but unadorned prose, Ted weaves together a little-known chapter of the country’s history. The book, featuring 291 historical pictures, tells how the author established national physical education data, trained track and field coaches, officials, and athletes, and improvised basic facilities in far-flung villages and towns. All of this was done against a backdrop of seasonal hurricanes while reinforcing the British garrison should Guatemala try to annex the country. The invasion never came, but the casting off of imperial influence did.
